Research
Interests
I
am currently working on developing chemo-attractant assays using parasitic
nematodes, in particular, root-knot nematodes (RKNs). It is widely known
that these parasitic nematodes have become economic burden on the agricultural
industry causing them billions of dollars in crop damages. These host
specific parasites invade crops by infiltrating the roots of their host
plants, forming giant cells or cysts that become their feeding sites.
This inevitably causes the death of the plant.
Specifically, the research is emphasized on the interactions between
RKNs and root secretions. We are assessing whether or not root secretions
in the soil are responsible for signaling the attraction of these nematodes
to the roots of their host plants.
